As the world push for sustainability and net zero, the reality is that we consume more oil, gas, and coal than ever. A circular economy offers a solution by reducing energy demand and fostering renewable energy, energy efficiency, recycling and waste-to-energy technologies, but how is this included in the energy sector?

Jon Are Rørtveit, Vice President, ONS
The ONS conference gathering global leaders to find solutions that will ensure a practical and safe transition to a circular economy. The majority of respondents from the 2022-survey emphasized we need government, investors, and business leaders to step up. What is the 2024-result, asks Jon Are Rørtveit, Vice President of ONS.

He is eager to know if there has been any progress or changes in attitudes for the last two years.

Background and Objectives

The 2024 survey is a collaboration between the ONS Foundation, RENAS and Circular Norway, and build upon the findings from the 2022 survey focusing on the energy sector's adaptation to a circular economy.

Bjørn Arild Thon, CEO, RENAS
The survey in 2022 showed us that it is important to provide a safe and practical transition to ensure energy reliability. Now it is crucial to understand the current state of the energy sector, states Bjørn Arild Thon, CEO of RENAS.

The 2022- survey highlighted how the circular economy contributes to resource efficiency and the transition to a renewable society, as well as how it can be a tool to achieve the 1.5-degree target.

To accelerate the energy transition, the energy industry must ensure security and sustainability. Bridging the gap between ambitions and reality is crucial. The circular economy is a key to achieve a sustainable energy sector, says Alexander Christiansen, CEO of Circular Norway.
