The Improved Recovery Award, awarded by The Norwegian Offshore Directorate since 1998, recognises creativity, patience, and a willingness to take risks when it comes to adopting methods and technologies that can increase oil and gas recovery beyond what can be expected with existing plans and methods.

The Vallhall field was discovered in 1975, and production began in 1982. The nearby Hod field started production in 1990. These fields have produced nearly four times more oil and gas than was estimated in the development plans. The ambition is to produce an additional one billion barrels of oil equivalent over the next 40 years.

This year’s award winners have ambitious plans to implement newly developed technology to increase production from tight reservoir formations. With several new installations, a power-from-shore solution was also put in place in 2013, which has significantly reduced emissions.

Congratulations to Aker BP and Pandion Energy!
